Shopping on Ourika Road
If one-stop shopping is what you are after . If the thought of negotiating every time you need a new alarm clock, fills you with dread - then a hypermarket may be just what you need.
No more need to go into, and across, Marrakech to get to the big supermarkets from Bab Adrar. At the 1,5km mark, just past Pascha nighclub, in the direction of Bab Adrar, a hypermarket and shopping centre is under construction with scheduled opening in Autumn 2009.
Previously, the journey to Marrakech's existing hypermarket Margane(Auchan) or wholesaler Metro (Makro) across Marrakech from Bab Adrar has been quite a trek.
A large supermarket and shopping centre on the Ourika Valley Road, just a 15 minute drive, straight along the main road will certainly make the weekly shop much easier, and it is still far away enough to avoid any traffic or noise problems for us.
Personally, I love to buy the organic fresh fruit and veg from the Ourika stallholders (recently I bought a hand of bananas, two pints of milk, six oranges, two loaves of bread and a peach for just 25dhs - about £2). However, when we need to get a new saucepan, kettle, bathcleaner etc, we will certainly be visiting the new store.
